JSC “MARKET OPERATOR” CELEBRATES ITS 7TH ANNIVERSARY

Today, we celebrate our 7th anniversary.

Back in 2019, many doubted that Ukraine’s new electricity market would be launched on time—on 1 July—and operate in accordance with European market principles. The team at JSC “Market Operator” believed it was possible. More importantly, we did everything within our power to turn that belief into reality.

On 30 June 2019, the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) commenced operations, followed by the launch of the Intraday Market (IDM) on 1 July. For JSC “Market Operator”, this was far more than the beginning of our operations. It marked the start of a long-term commitment to building a modern market infrastructure that delivers transparent price formation and fair competition in Ukraine’s electricity market every single day.

Over the past seven years, we have evolved from launching two spot market segments to creating an entire ecosystem of services for market participants. We have grown alongside the market itself, assuming new responsibilities, introducing new platforms and digital tools, and continuously expanding opportunities for transparent and efficient interaction among all market participants.

Yet these seven years are not only a story of development.

They are a story of resilience.

We operated around the clock throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when the familiar world changed almost overnight. We faced the first days of the full-scale invasion, when the future seemed uncertain. We continued our work through nationwide blackouts, air raid alerts, and some of the most difficult challenges ever faced by Ukraine’s energy sector.

And despite everything, the market never stopped.

Trading continued every day. Market participants received the services they relied on and timely payments for the electricity they sold. Every day, the team at JSC “Market Operator” ensured the uninterrupted operation of the market.

Our credo is “Bold Enough to Think About Tomorrow.” Today, these words carry even greater meaning than ever before. Thinking about tomorrow means believing in it even when uncertainty surrounds us. It means continuing to build when it would be easier to stop. It means developing the market when circumstances put resilience to the test. And, time and again, it means finding the courage to move forward.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our employees, partners, and every market participant who has been—and continues to be—part of this journey. We are proud of everything we have accomplished together. Even more, we are inspired by what lies ahead. Because the future does not simply happen—it is created by those who have the courage to think about tomorrow.
