COOPERATION BETWEEN EDUCATION AND THE ENERGY SECTOR: MARKET EXPERTS DELIVER LECTURES TO FUTURE SPECIALISTS AT KYIV IGOR SIKORSKY POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE

As part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between JSC «Market Operator», PJSC «Ukrhydroenergo», NPC «Ukrenergo», and SE «Guaranteed Buyer», a series of lectures dedicated to the functioning of Ukraine’s electricity market was delivered to students of Kyiv Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute.

The Memorandum, signed on 7 January 2026, is aimed at fostering cooperation between the education sector and the energy industry, enhancing the level of student training, familiarizing them with the practical aspects of market operations, and developing human capital for Ukraine’s energy sector.

As part of the educational event, leading experts from key electricity market companies addressed the students. In particular, the Acting CEO of JSC «Market Operator», Oleksandr Havva, outlined the principles of the functioning of Ukraine’s electricity market, including its structure, segments, and pricing mechanisms.

The role of the transmission system operator and the maintenance of stable power system operations were presented by Oleh Skrypnyk, Member of the Management Board of NPC «Ukrenergo».

Issues related to the operation of the balancing market and the ancillary services market, including imbalance settlement mechanisms and commercial aspects of operations, were covered by Viacheslav Babich, Deputy Director of the Commercial Department at PJSC «Ukrhydroenergo».

Particular attention was paid to the integration of renewable energy. Maksym Dyrenko, Head of the Electricity Market Trading Operations Department at SE «Guaranteed Buyer», spoke about the specifics of operations of renewable energy producers and the mechanisms of their support.

The delivery of such lectures is an important step in implementing the provisions of the Memorandum, as it enables the integration of theoretical training with practical experience, enhances students’ awareness of real processes in the electricity market, and contributes to the preparation of competitive professionals for the industry.
