Oleksandr Havva, Acting Director General of the JSC Market Operator told teachers and students of the «Enterprise Economics» department of the Economics Faculty of the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko about Ukraine’s electricity market philosophy.

"Energy has always been a strategically important sector for the state. More than 200 000 specialists work here, which is comparable to the IT sector", - O. Havva started his speech.

The Head of the Market Operator also told about the competitive advantages of the electric energy market European model, which has been operating in the EU countries since 2009, as well as how the market of electric power works in the USA.

“The European model of the electricity market started its work in Ukraine on July 1, 2019. The electricity distribution and transmission were separated from purchasing and selling, new players and completely new working conditions appeared on the market - transparent and competitive", - O.Havva said.

He has also added that there are three ways of electricity buying and selling defined by the Ukrainian legislation: bilateral contracts market, the day-ahead market and the intraday market, as well as the balancing market.

“The day-ahead market and the intraday market are organized market segments. Electricity is sold and bought according to well-defined rules for the short term perspective, and the price is formed exclusively by the market method here. This is the so-called spot market", - Oleksandr Havva summed up.
